No. I haven't. Is that an American thing?

Mardi Gras is. That's a celebration held in New Orleans every year. Carnivale is a similar celebration, and, in fact, is held over the same time of year. I've been to the one in Brazil. The whole thing is this festival of lavishness and gluttony, essentially. It happens before Lent.

Well yes and no. I was born on leap year so I have to celebrate early or late however you look at it.
