It was a saving grace, more or less, than Castiel could interpret how he felt otherwise they'd never be able to get along. Fortunately, Dean probably trusted Castiel more than he'd trust himself or his brother. He trusted Castiel much more than anyone because in the future? Castiel was all he had left outside himself and he knew that more than anything, he would be the person that would essentially die for him. That died because of him. He hadn't known if it was something that he could ever get over. But he was trying because he had too. If he didn't he wouldn't be able t live with himself. He already had a difficult time looking at himself in the mirror.
