There are enough heroes in the world from among our kind they do not need
more. There are even enough human heroes. And besides why should we lift a
hand to help when most wouldn't help us when we needed it?
[Bart could see where the man was coming from but it felt...wrong. It didn't matter if there were others out there to help, not when he had the power to save people who needed his help. When the kid heard the man's question, he looked over at him and answered.]
They need us, so we help.
[The kid sighed as he looked around at the others like him, and wished he could stay with this family, a family that wouldn't look at him as if he were a monster...the way his own parents had looked at him, but as badly as Bart longed for a life of true acceptance he couldn't abandon the innocent people out there who were in need of someone to protect them.]
I...I'm sorry Erik, but I can't abandon them and simply hope that someone else will keep them safe...
[A name? Sort of, it's not a spoken word. More of a feeling of knowing who she is. Her people communicate with their emotions, after all. Gem nods once, yes she has a name. But she cannot speak it.]
[She smiles and shakes her head no, sorry she doesn't think you could. But it's alright, Gem doesn't mind if he doesn't know her name so long as he is a friend.]
[Erik nods understanding where Bart is coming from he places a hand on the
young man shoulder.]
I understand and should you wish to change your mind there will be a place
for you here. However I know of a better home for you. A school for young
people like yourself who share the same ideals.
[Bart grinned at the open invite and paused as he considered the prospect of going back to school, and a school with others like himself none the less!]
Man that sounds pretty cool, but truth be told I kinda skipped out of school when I was thirteen and haven't been back since. Been on my own for a good long while so not sure the school thing would be the best fit, but I will be uh, swinging by here from time to time if that's cool with you?
Figure we can get a little bbq going, swap some stories and just kick it...plus uh, well I really wouldn't mind hanging with Raven. Anywho, I should get back out there, but if you ever need me bud, just drop me a line and I'll be here in a flash!
[With a goofy grin the kid handed the larger man a business card with his cell number on it, and vanished only to reappear in front of Raven. Bart held her hand for a second and kissed it before he disappeared, leaving behind a small gust of wind.]
