She'll be ready soon, they say.
Yes, of course, but without someone immediately threatening there's nothing wrong with pleasure, or exploring, or even checking in on some of the further corners of the kingdom - and beyond it. Peter's mildly curious about what's happened with the Lone Islands, to tell the truth. That was part of his title, at one point. It's been a thousand years, and even more likely to have changed than Narnia herself.

He tries not to think too deeply or too hard about the fact she's got more than a thousand years on him. Much better to focus on what's real right now, like the fact she's standing beside him.
Like the fact there's a ship in the harbour nearly ready for her maiden voyage.
"I'm rather partial to the Dawn Treader, myself."

There's a smile touching her face again, "That'd be a fine choice, I think."

Her touch against the outline is like a benediction, a proper blessing of the fact she's passing the piece of herself over to him--the way she's already given him so much more of herself. This feels special in a far different way than the gift of her maidenhood. No expectations set on by others. No pressure from anyone but themselves.
His laugh is just a little flustered as he arches a brow, rests his forehead to hers again. "Not as a surprise, I hope."

"No, I would think not," Sansa agrees, nodding firmly before his forehead nudges against her own. "There'd be enough time for you to return long before that happens."
She can hope, at least, that a baby born to them would be strong and whole. It is something she thinks about more often now that they've actively begun to try and conceive. "But a happy surprise, when it happens," she adds.

Her certainty is reassuring. Of course he'll be here when their child is born. Of course she'll raise the child well even in his absence. Of course his family--the wife and child he'll come to love properly as he learns to know the former and finally meets the latter--will always be here waiting for him to return from having his hand in the actual running of the kingdom.

"No, I suppose you're right," Sansa agrees, with a small laugh. "Not very much of one if - well, efforts are being made for it to happen." She sucks her head to hide a small flush - thinking about it is enough to make her giggle, but speaking of what they do in their bed always makes her blush fiercely.
"Do you think, perhaps, that I would be able to board the ship now?" The thought suddenly occurs to her as she looks to him. "Just to see - to know for myself what it is like."

He can't help the way his face lights up. Likely he oughtn't worry about it. Just because it's something as objectively silly as his wife wanting to set foot on the beautiful new ship in their harbour doesn't make his smile any less of a good thing, surely.

"I do," she insists, grinning herself at the sight of his smile, the act practically lighting up his entire countenance when she expresses her desire to see the ship - to stand on it with her own two feet.
"She may not be ready to sail yet, but she would be ready to bear her queen for a few moments, wouldn't she?"
He can't stop himself. He's been good about not saying 'I love you' on expectation rather than impulse, but he can't stop himself from catching her cheeks now, kissing her hard for a long moment.

"In passing," he says, with a bit of a shrug. He's not as social as he was before... well, before, and he wasn't all that social to start with. "I think Ed probably knows him better, but he seems like a capable, pleasant man."

Actual knowledge isn't crucial. Having his judgement trusted is more than enough.

Peter frowns a bit that, because it isn't something he truly knows. "Why has it gone out of fashion? Didn't your people come from sea-farers? It's even in the name."
She smiles broadly, moving away only as long as it takes to grab her cloak before joining him by the door leading out of their chambers - and then she slips a hand into his, allowing him to lead her down and outside to the docks.
She glances up at the ship as they approach, trying to take it all in.
"I didn't expect her to be this - big up close."

"Originally, yes." Which meant it was deep in their blood. That here and now, ten generations away from the first Caspian who had come off a ship, the current King was clearly straining to be back on the waves. "I suppose it was-- more complicated while... hold was being maintained."

He's much more self-assured, these days. He stands much more like a King, speaks with much more certainty; thinks like a leader with a firm grip on his role.
