My life is not so brief or meaningless, but I do not know why mortals bother. [a short pause] Perhaps for the same reason as the ants, I suppose, if my metaphor were to continue down its not so inaccurate course.
Honey, I've known immortals who did less that mattered in their long lives than a few short lived mortals who happened to be lynch pins or just really enthusiastic in the endeavor. It's all a matter of perspective.
Perhaps. But their world does not mean much in the grand scale of the universe. The only endeavors they ever affect are their own. Hardly a cause to over-credit.
In the grand scale of the infinitely large and ever expanding universe, stars are nothing more than temporary sparks in the darkness. Nothing matters if you scale it out enough. But it's possible time has made me sentimental rather than bitter in my choosing not zoom too far out.
I've fought against creatures that would extinguish the entire universe--not one star but all of them at once. I have never seen a mortal do more than protect its own. This is the difference of which I speak.
There it is, I knew I remembered the tone of this conversation. From heroes before the word mutated from describing those who did impressive deeds worthy of retelling in epic form to those who are good and pure and just. Obviously you were victorious, or part of a victory. Does it feel grand to you?
Quite. I have done some underestimation myself when it comes to such creatures. [A rare admittance.] Though they are not so clever yet to find their way through my armor.
My specialty. It takes patience most do not possess. [And intelligence and guile. Loki preferred such things over brute strength, and used them accordingly.] As well as a certain... skill set [so to speak] most do not care to utilize even when they do possess it.
Most don't understand that it's easier to slide in than to stomp in. That those who can do such a thing are a beautiful sight, something to be treasured and feared, respected and wary of.
