Time is fluid, it's not linear.

Well, not so much fluid as...tacky. It sticks to things, time.

[identity profile] watch-is-me.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's...it's not straight, it doesn't go straight ahead, it's not linear, no, but it's not fluid, either, it doesn't fill up space like a container, it's more[he waves his hands in loops, as though pretending he's either an atom, a small solar system, or a very poor amateur orchestra conductor]it goes 'round and 'round and 'round, all of these little centers of time gravity, and everyone gets more time or less time, they pull it in, everything sentient is like a time catcher, like a dreamcatcher or a suncatcher or...or a time sink, a time zone. And you can skip around from one time center to another and make your own go all bendy and wobbly and turn it on its ear, and then, of course, there's flux and paradox and you never know where time's gone once you start playing about with those, it's right out of your hands and you're not in anyone's zone anymore, you can get lost to time entirely there and, oh, that's forgetting about packets, packet time transmission, time sharing, right—

[Stop him. Stop him, or the hand gestures may take someone's eye out.]

[Tsk. Interruptions! ...And, yeah, he's aware his explanation was failing, there. :\]

It's driving a square peg into a round hole, describing time with English. [Meh.]

I've never understood that.

Oh. But I still picture it as a straight line, or something similar.

Can you explain?

[identity profile] nottome.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Tch, yeah, if you're a time traveler or something, or have suddenly discovered how to influence time, sure.

[identity profile] chloeas.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
So how do we get to different times?

[identity profile] czech-em.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it is not linear. That would be.. highly illogical.

*glares* Fat lot of good that that does.
