Hell, I do it just to drive to the store. But there's a big difference about rush hour traffic than being on the I-40 doing 80 with hardly any cars around and no exits for miles.

Places we could stay free of charge, as oppose to getting a motel.

Sure. There's an old 'stang in non-working order up at my uncle's place and I'm begging my Dad to get it fixed up for me. He just gives me that 'traitor' look.
