Perhaps; perhaps not. The Southern delegates strongly disliked any condemnation of slavery. Sensible, as it was in their own interest to do such.

Yeah. I mean, I can see it, but at the same time, I totally don't get it. I understand it was their livelihoods and all, but those were human beings.

You must understand, it was quite easy to fail to see them that way. I, myself, never ceased the opinion that slavery was an abomination; nevertheless, it was different back then.
