Infatuated with my new old desk.

Are you? Yes, the pen and the notebook are out.

It was a gift from my dad. We had to sell it when we moved, a long time ago, but he bought it back for me as a present. *smiles* It's not so much the desk itself as the... memories, I guess... that go with it. The fact that he took the trouble to get it back when it was clearly not the easiest to recover.

Oh.

Well. That's not quite as interesting then.

The pen and notebook return to her pocket, and, yes, she does look a little disappointed.

Still, that is quite a gesture by your father.

*raises an eyebrow*

It is. He's been surprisingly cool throughout this whole move. Much more extravagant than usual - not that I need extravagance, mind you... *rather aware of the woman's aptitude for analysis* ...but it's kind of nice.

I apologize. I must seem rude. I thought you might have meant you were actually infatuated with the desk, which would have been an extremely interesting point of conversation.

Of course. Simple gestures are appreciated, but grand ones can make a very definite statement.

*smiles* No. Just... applying a verb typically used for human-to-human relationships to my feelings for an ornately carved block of wood. I can understand why you'd find it interesting if I meant it literally.

And - yes. I think Dad's trying to make a statement. It's the last year I'm living at home, so he's determined to live it up. Apparently at no expense.

That certainly seems reasonable to me, so long as he is not overreaching his savings in his extravagance.

*shrugs* I asked him about that. He said he wasn't, although I'm not entirely convinced. But I suppose it's possible he's been saving up for awhile and I just haven't known. He's been known to do things like that on occasion.
