That happens to my laptop. The jack where it plugs in to the charger might be loose. You did make sure it was plugged into the wall right? I mean the whole cord.
That one happened to me once. I have it plugged into the laptop, and into the wall, but forgot to plug the charger into the cord that was in the wall.
I don't think it's the charger since it works fine while plugged into the wall in at least 3 different outlets. It's bringing power to the machine just not the battery.
Is the AC adapter lighting up and stuff? Chances are it might have frayed and shorted out if it's not. If you have the AppleCare protection plan you can show up with it at the Apple store and they'll switch it out for free. If not you can buy a new one. I think they go for about $70.
Mine was notorious for doing that back when I had a PowerBook G4. I have a spanking new MacBook now though, and the adapter design is so much better, but I hear it still tends to do it.
Hmm, and the battery's just not holding a charge when not plugged in?
I know the battery life gets lesser and lesser over time, but less than a year doesn't seem like it should put it to zero. I had my PowerBook for almost 4 years and near the end the battery only got me like 10 minutes, that was fun...
Anyway, at least it's still running while plugged in. I'd suggest calling Apple support? Maybe there's a way to reset the battery, or perhaps it's defective and you need a new one. That should be covered with under the protection plan too.
Just never ever ever EVER tell them you've dropped it, if you have at any point. They don't cover drops (SO frustrating) and as soon as you mention it they'll try to pin it on that and want to charge you up the ass for it. That's happened to me too, but I was lucky enough to have an independent tech place nearby and they were able to fix it under the warranty and just not tell Apple the damage was sustained in a drop. This might not pertain to you now, but it's good knowledge just in case. ^_^
The power chord seems fine. The green light is on and it is bringing power to the machine, that's how I'm using it right now. It's just not charging the battery like it's supposed to.
Up the in corner it says not charging instead of a percent/time or whatever and though the chord is bringing power to the machine, the battery isn't charging.

Most laptop batteries have a limited lifetime of around two years before they start going bad. :S I have the same problem. My laptop battery only holds 5 minutes of charge. I need a new one too.
I only got my laptop in August!! I feel like the battery should last at least a year. Good thing I have Apple Care, they'll replace it for free if its needed, I think.
I'd call and ask. Some models have covered batteries and some don't. You also want to make sure it wasn't recalled and you missed it which is another possibility. Also check the cord. That might be the problem. Does the light showing it is plugged in come on?
LOL Everyone's said it's the battery and not the power cord, so .. I won't add to that. But yeah, Apple Store is the way to go (I turn into like .. a friggin' moth whenever I'm walking by; I HAVE to go inside, EVERY TIME!). I do second that advice of not telling them you dropped it, though .. They're so finnecky about that sort of stuff.
That happened with my Dell, though, before I switched the iBook two years ago. But I haven't gotten rid of it yet because it has so many files on it and I'm determined to persuade my brother to fix it haha. But yeah. I hope my MacBook doesn't go through any of those problems. *pets it* I have bad luck with killing off iPods .. as in, I use them too much so it dies. I don't think I'm any better with my Mac. Meep!
Good luck with the Apple store! Definitely go online and make an appt. on the Concierge thing, with one of the Apple Geniuses. They're great and I go to them whenever I'm having Mac-related troubles. :)
Oh, and PS. - ACK I GOT MY LAPTOP IN AUGUST, TOO!! D:
Of course I am. I wasn't going to let James be a PC-user. LOL. Macs are FAR too superior for that. :P
Yay!! :D The Genius people are great. I remember this one time, the last time my iPod died (*tear*), I went in and I was like, "I think I use it too much .. I mean, I use it while I'm walking, while I'm relaxing, while I'm driving .. I sleep with it .." (I can't fall asleep without music) and he was just like, "Whoa, I think we need to ween you off or something." Hahaha.

Sometimes chargers themselves die.

Thanks for the advice! I wondered if you were a MacHead like James is :-)
I'm looking but having trouble finding it, where do I go to make the appointment?
Nevermind, I found it! YAY
