Personally I'm kind of liking LA right now myself.

Even the smog is sort of charming. I'm sure that'll get old fast, but at least I can count on a lot of sunshine.

Where'd you transplant from?

I wouldn't call it a total transplant though. More like an open ended vacation? Life has been insane for me lately. Right now a beach house without a return date is exactly what I need.

I'm not in LA proper really. Malibu in a beach house but I spend some time in LA. My girlfriend lives there and all her friends are there so we go back and forth between LA and Malibu a lot.

Same, sort of. New York was my last place of residence.

Yeah. Every once in awhile you just need to get away. Malibu's a pretty nice place to get away to. I haven't found a place yet, but I'm looking around Santa Monica and Venice.

Good luck with the house hunting. I got lucky. My girlfriend's family owns this great little beach house. Are you looking for something permanent or just to rent?

I'm looking for something on the beach. The rest doesn't matter much to me, I could either rent or own. I came out here for work, and my new business partner seems to think he can set me up with something nice. We'll see. In the meantime, I'm staying at a little hotel just off Venice Beach.

Your own house makes you feel so much more settled. Hopefully he can find something for you.

What kind of work do you do?

If not, I can probably find myself something.

These days security. I used to run a book shop, but that was back in New York.

That's a huge change. From a book shop to security.

I've got some experience in security. The book shop was more of a hobby turned into a capitalist endeavor. I got a better offer, and I felt like being on the west coast for awhile, so I took it.

Traffic is horrible, though. Orlando's better.

Not a big fan of humidity. Plus the giant cartoon character plushies are a little scary.

I'm from New Orleans, so I don't mind the humidity. And as long as you stay far away from any place where children go, you can usually avoid the cartoon characters.

There are some nice bars there.

If you're planning a vacation, the best place I've ever been is Kyoto. It's a little overwhelming, but fun, once you get the hang of it.

I went once, a long time ago, but that was for business. I'll check it out next time my vacation comes around.

Good idea. My first trip was for business, but the second time I went there was one of the best weeks of my life.

Anything in particular I should check out?

The Nishiki market is nice, even if they do bleed foreigners like happy, friendly leeches.

And the Path of Philosophy, if you go during the cherry blossom festival.
