Is completely random a better thought?

I don't know. I've been asking myself this question over and over again lately, but I never come up with any answers.

Do you think things happen at random?

I used to, but I don't anymore. I used to just believe crappy things happened and it just was.

I've learned there's usually a reason, and you don't want to know about it.

I've always been able to explain things logically. Everything has an origin which it can be traced back to. Yet now I've experienced things that I can't explain and suddenly I'm doubting what I thought was so stable about life.

Just because you can't explain them? Doesn't mean they lack explaination. That is something I'm still working on but I believe in it.

There are plenty of explanations out there that aren't the truth. I don't like leaving everything to fate or faith. Just how are you working on those explanations? Maybe I can learn something.

Hell, I hope not.

It'd be stupid. Murphy's law is bad enough already. Also, I'm a fan of free will and all that stuff.

So you're saying that there shouldn't be an explanation behind what happens in life? I agree that free will should exist, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a reasonable cause for every effect.

I'm not for this reasonable cause stuff. Why does everything have to be profound and deep?

'cause if everything happens for a reason, why bother? Kinda makes it unimportant if something good or bad happens. AND takes away the possibility of being pissed off at bad things.

Besides, when everything happens for a reason, the word reason's invalid, 'cause there'd be no more non-reason stuff. Or something.

Holy shit, it's far too early and sober for me to be so frekin' philosophical.

I'm not saying that it has to be deep, just that I don't that there are things can't bear explanation.

I know where you're going though, and I tend to agree. If everything's regulated then that takes away one's will, and it seems to me like choice is a fundamental right in life.

Yeah, well, maybe we wouldn't like the explanation anyway.

Somewhat. Moreso out of personal belief.

Can I ask why? I'm just trying to figure some stuff out right now.

I've had a lot of... some would call them terrible - things happen to me in my life. As I reflect back on them, I realize I wouldn't be the same person I am now if they hadn't happened. I wouldn't be a detective, and all the good I've done never would've occurred.

*nods* That makes a lot of sense. Thanks. I just... don't know what to think anymore concerning this type of stuff. I hate feeling so indecisive.

Well, minor correction. Everything happens for a purpose. Whether there's rhyme or reason behind it ... a lot of the time it's just difficult to see.

And is this purpose supposed to guide people one way or another? I have a hard time believing that.

To an extent. Your purpose is decided by the choices you make in life.
