I heard a shot and a crashing sound outside my cottage at two in the morning. When the police arrived, they found the remains of a man and a double bass. The impact broke the necks of both instrument and victim.

A strange case, to be sure. They will be arguing about it in the papers for a few months, even when one considers how little is generally known.

Someone hit the man with a double bass? I've never even heard of that before...

Although, the perfect murder would be to take the instrument with you. No one would suspect the instrument for a murder weapon, nor a musician for a murderer.

He was trying to steal the double bass...so using it as a weapon would make perfect sense; it would appear to be self-defense, protecting one's property.
