Seems to be. I lived with him for a week and never saw his dumbassery. I come upon him on the street and he confesses to a cop that he blew up a police station.

Well, I happened on John confessing to a policeman about burning down a police precinct. And I didn't act in John's favor - because why would I? I gained a new contact and he almost got arrested. I stopper her from getting burned too badly.
