Size for one. Netbooks are tiny. The other thing is power. You can get a laptop that is intended to be a desktop replacement; netbooks are mostly intended for checking email and light duty web surfing.

So definitely not ideal if you're planning to write a few three thousand word essays? That's really my main concern. Aside from the internet and iTunes, I don't use my laptop for very much else.

You could probably manage that just fine. The price on a netbook is certainly appealing too.

She prefers her laptop which she basically uses for music and internet.
Her netbook is really low power. More than a webpage and messenger open it gets upset. But it was so cheap she doesn't care. After all, it travels better. I've not tried music on the netbook.
