Maybe she thinks that dogs are nasty, mangy mongrels. In which case, I'd agree with her wholeheartedly.

Look, I don't like animals myself, but Katherine wanted a puppy. She gets lonely, being an only child... besides, my wife doesn't want her going out too much with that maniac on the loose. Not that the neighborhood kids are friendly anyway.

She's just pissed that I didn't consult her first.
