No news can be very worrisome.

I always thought no news was good news.

Not if your friends are in danger and you haven't heard anything from them in about 12 hours.

The cat in the box scenario.

Cat in the box, you put a cat in the box and shut it and put something in there that could possibly kill it. As long as the box is shut you don't know if the cat is alive or dead, so it's in both states until you open it.

They're either in danger or not in danger and the only way you can know is if you go to them and see. But until then they're in both states.

Ahh. That's kind cruel to the cat, isn't it?

Unfortunately, I can't just go and see.

It's a theoretical cat. Though I'm tempted to do it with our kitten. *grins*

And so they exist perpetually in that state.
