Who was paroled?

Murderer I locked up four years ago for killing his nephew. The charge was knocked down on a technicality and in spite of my testimony the damn judge released him on parole. Son of a bitch is in someone's pocket.

That sucks. That's the weak link in the US Justice System.

He's threatened me twice. Fucking brilliant.

Can't you file harrassment charges?

The threats weren't specific enough. His lawyer would get him off on another technicality and sue me for wrongful arrest. *dryly*

I'm not going to hide just because some idiot parolee told me he's going to make me regret locking him up. Besides, Murphy's staying with me. I'm not kickin' her out or putting my family in danger by staying with them.

Then stay with me. Stay with your partner. Hell, I'll put both you and Murphy up in a hotel if necessary.

Ex-partner, still on my own bello. Carson's got a wife and two little girls. Hotels are expensive, I'm not letting you put us up. And I can't impose on you, Don. Besides, he's on parole. That means he's free til he screws up again. It could be months, maybe a year or two before he goes back to prison.

Besides, you'd go insane living with me after a few days. A week, tops.

Why the hell should I up and throw my life on hold, abandon my home and my sick brother just because some idiot has a grudge?! I'm a fucking cop, for christ's sake! I'm (nearly) a black belt in martial arts and I have a gun. I've survived a lot worse, so why the hell should I become a helpless damsel now?!

I would do it, even if I had no family to protect.

Never play defense if you don't have to.

If I'm going to be a target, I will be the only target. I'm not endangering anyone I love. I'll fight this battle myself.

I have no idea at the moment. I'm trying to help Lieutenant Murphy catch an arsonist from Chicago who attacked her - guy's got one hell of a rap sheet - at the moment. Flack's trying to get me to abandon my apartment.

I'm gonna keep doing my job, and be alert, while living my life.

Well, there's no point in telling you that hiding is what he wants because even if it's the best advice or not, you're not going to take it.

So, best advice I have? Be alert but know when to back down.

Hiding is what Phelps wants? I know that's what he wants. And I don't want to put Flack in any danger by staying with him. If I'm going to be a target, I will be the only target.
