(no subject)

Sometimes I wish he wouldn't call.

Who's 'he', if you don't mind me asking.

Ah. Parents can be...tricky. Does he call often?

Well, it's easy to be polite about other people's parents.

I take it you and your dad aren't close?

Thanks but if I'm rude to your parents I'm more likely to slip up and be rude to mine. That kind of guilt trip I don't need.

That's a shame. There's lot of other officers out there he can be a cop with but he's only got one(?) daughter.

My parents aren't bad. They drive me absolutely nuts but they mean well so I feel guilty when I try to make them stop driving me nuts.

At his age, I suppose it's not likely you'll get him to change his way of thinking.

Yes, well, my parents pride themselves on doing what they think they're supposed to do. They're quite persistant about it, in fact.

That sucks. I'm curious, though--does he want you to treat him like another cop or does he expect you to treat him like 'dad'?

I know I'm lucky. I remind myself of that every time they start playing 20 questions with my personal life.

Please tell me he doesn't expect you to salute him. [rolls eyes] Wish I had some advice but.... Sounds like you don't have many options. You either put up with him or...don't. Neither is a good solution.

Sometimes a long distance relationship (especially with family) is the best kind of relationship.
