Most people are short-sighted. Getting and keeping respect require being able to look at things long-term.

One would think. However, it seems that most people are too impatient to think beyond what they want in the here and now. They have lofty goals for the future, but they won't set themselves on the path to get those goals until the last minute.

Then they wonder why it's so difficult.
