Why's that?

Well, I've always prefered to get things over and done with as soon as possible. Saves a lot of time and effort.

*laughs* Long story.

And after you've got everything over and done with, what do you do with the rest of your life?

Ah. I know a thing or two about those.

I've no idea! Which is a bit of problem for me at the moment.

We all do, it seems.

I see. Too much life and not enough living?

I suppose so. Some are longer than others, though.

Nice to meet you, too. My French is... limited to "I don't speak French, sorry," or I'd be polite and reply that way. I'm one of those annoying Americans that hopes everyone speaks English.

But enough about me, sorry. So what do you do with yourself on a day to day basis, since the big picture's a bit fuzzy?

Oh, I'm an artist. Or I was. I'm considering changing professions -- I just don't know what to yet.

An artist. That's great. I've always wanted to have some kind of artistic talent.

Yeah. I think I'm due for a profession change myself. What do you like to do?

I'm not quite sure. Teaching, perhaps.

That's nice. The closest I've come to artistic is drunken kazoo playing at a frat party. Don't let anyone ever tell you the kazoo isn't a noble instrument.

Teaching is great. My mom was a teacher. Kids? Or older students?

*laughs* Alright, I won't.

Either or. It's been a while since I had anything remotely resembling a student.

I think I've still got that kazoo somewhere...

You used to teach? And now you're an artist. No offense, but you don't seem old enough to be going through a second career change.

None taken. And you're right, I was a very early starter.

I get the sense it might be worthwhile to ask you about your long story.

I used to not be, but I'm acquiring a taste for it.

It does.

You could almost say I lived it at one point.
