[an e-mail pings up and opens itself. There are no words but my icon pops up, zipping around the screen. A high pitched girl's voice comes through the speakers]
Edward's name is Radical Edward. Edward intercepted this person's message. Is this person sad? Or scared?
Oh, I don't need sessions. Well, I don't know. I probably do but this isn't about me so much. I want to know if there is any conversations that you think should be off limits. Talking about the suicide attempt or me with another man maybe?
Tyler has come a long way, Ms. Montgomery. In my professional opinion, you don't need to be concerned about him becoming suicidal again from you rejecting him. He needs his friends to be upfront and honest with him. I would go ahead and tell him about the other man, if I'm wrong about his emotional response I'll be on call but I don't think I will be. This is one hill I'm confident he's on the over.
As far as talking about the suicide attempt, Ms. Montgomery, I might suggest you offer to go to his rooftop with him one day and just sit there with him as long as he can handle it and just let him talk. He's scared to death and ashamed to go back there. Eventually he needs to be able to truly put this incident behind him to truly move on in his life. If he never faces the roof, he'll always be a little bit stalled. It would make me feel better if he's not alone since there is a likelihood of an emotional break and though he's not likely to hang himself again, it is a roof and accidents do happen when we're quite upset.
To Tyler, it feels like it was lifetimes ago. When you're institutionalized like Tyler was for those 2 and a half weeks time isn't really effective the way it is otherwise. If you're not comfortable with being there on his roof that's okay, it was merely a suggestion, sometimes these things work best with a friend.
I don't mean the roof. He needs to go back up there. I meant telling him I'm in love with the guy he thought I was replacing him with. Or reintroducing the physical aspects of our relationship. I don't know what it would take to want to take your own life but that seems fragile and something that needs time to repair. The therapy is helping. He's drawing and stuff and that's great but it just seems too easy that it's completely fine now. No hang ups concerning me. No possessiveness. It just doesn't feel like I can trust it. I believed him when he told me that he was okay before and he tried to kill himself.
