OOC: The brick is terrifying but amazing once you get into it. Do you mind M-sur-M while I get a feel for the character? This is my first time as Valjean.

He bowed at the waist and drew out folded papers from inside his coat and offered them forward.

My name is Michel Javert. I am here to replace your former Chief of Police.

No need to apologize Mssr... *the name stops him cold, looks up at him*

Javert. ...*a longer pause then he intended, before bowing his head to examine his paperwork as he turns away to put distance between them* We are pleased to have you...although you'll find our town a quiet sort of place.

*another long pause* Have you ever been stationed anywhere like this before?

I believe that quiet is exactly why my superiors sent me here, Monsieur Mayor.

He shook his head slightly. My only previous was in Toulon, at the prison.

My superiors felt that I was in need of a change of scenery.

It was... true, but not the entire story. The paroled convict that had disappeared was not mentioned, nor the strain that eight years of thinking about that again and again had put on him. Nor the assorted attempts on his life by some of the prison inmates.

But those were unimportant details.

*listens in silence, a little unwilling to move, to breath*
