I haven't had as much time as I'd like to keep up with all the papers. I'm glad to hear that, he's an incredibly talented man when he's sober. I'll have to look for his articles.
Well, I remember him complimenting me a lot. I thought maybe it was just because he felt badly about what happened all those years ago, that maybe he wanted to get on my good side. He also said he's been keeping track of my career lately. And he said a funny thing actually - said he always keeps C-SPAN on at home on the off-chance I'll show up.
Well, there's your chance? But it doesn't have to be a date if you're not ready, in fact, maybe you shouldn't see it as a date just yet. I think you should go, have a good time with a friend and if something comes out of it and you are ready for that, then great, if it doesn't, you didn't raise your expectations.
Oh, this is a terrible idea. I'm liable to do nothing but make a fool of myself. It probably isn't a day anyway. I'm probably reading too much into this. And if it were a date, god only knows how Clark would feel about it. Oh, dear.
Well, you're going into it thinking of it as lunch with a friend, right? So you don't have to worry about making a fool of yourself (which I don't even think it's possible) and you don't have to worry about Clark either.

when he's sober. I'll have to look for his articles. You're assuming but you don't know for sure?

Well...he didn't say, but he must have meant it as a business lunch, right?

But he didn't specify anything? I guess I need a little more context to understand the situation and help you analyze it.

Well, he just...called me at work, asked if I'd like to have lunch with him. He didn't say much more than that.

You'll have to let me know how it goes.

...do I let him pay if he tries to?

Only if you are comfortable with it.

I'm sorry to thrust all of my neuroses upon you, Chloe. You've been very patient, thank you.
