The story is long, I shall keep it as short for you as possible.
I had a chap approach me to be a deckhand. He assured me he had done ship work before. Needless to say, his mouth did not match his boast. This was proven when we were upon the ships mast-one hundred and thirty feet- He lost hold of an important rope, and so saying "oops" he, for reasons I can not fathom, prepared to jettison the last few feet.
At which point I hollered at him, with little tact, but some accuracy, "Do not let it go you moron. Are we going to bring it back by willpower or something?"
Of course he let it go, it took a sail with it. This was the final straw as far as I was concerned. I let forth a volley of abuse on sailing in general and my role in it, I retired to my bunk with a martyred expression and a bottle of Scotch.
When we got the ship to shore, I had the chap disembark before I behaved less impeccably. That is the story behind the "oops".

I must say, I probably would've reacted in much the same way...which is probably why I tend to work on my own.
