Don't know. I've been wondering that myself. Seems you push people away when they do, even me.

What happened?

I blew off his compliment and then he went a little quiet.

Hurts a man's pride to be rejected but not too hard to fix.

He said I was pretty when I blushed, but he sorta did the same to me when I said that he probably had women lining up to be with him.

Boy's probably trying to convince you he thought you were pretty. Men can be stubborn.

And he returned the compliment. Then you got stand-offish about it?

I sorta muttered that, not expecting him to here and then he does. I blush and he says I'm pretty when I blush.

I screw things up all the time of course I am. Not only did I act a fool around Keith but Billy hates me.

Keith will forgive you. Snake sighed. Doubt anyone likes being called stupid or told they don't know themselves. Hope, babydoll, you need to think about others feelings. I know you wouldn't want to be told something like that.

Billy said you called him a stupid boy. Snake shrugged. Just going by what he told me.

I'm waiting to hear it right now. Snake shrugged. After what you've said about him not knowing shit because he's a kid, I can see you saying something that might make him feel that way.

I told him that it wasn't fair for me to expect that he would love me when he grows up, like it wasn't fair for him to expect me to wait around for him for ten years. Dad, no matter what, no matter how much I love him, Billy's more like a kid brother now. It's wrong for me to look at him in any other way. Morally and legally.

That's your choice but don't change what he feels for you. I don't think he sees you as a big sister.

Snake shrugged off her comment about age. He had no right to say anything on that subject given his past.

It's wrong for me to love him, it's a sin and...and he's not the person I love. I love the man who came to the house, the one I was so ready to marry and spend my life with. It's not the boy, it's not him...why...why doesn't anyone understand that?

Snake frowned. That boy is the Billy you fell in love with. That boy is the one who made you want to be with the adult he will be not the other way around.

Why don't we understand? Because that boy and you are the ones who fell in love and now you're rejecting him because he's not his future self.

Because it's wrong dad. I can't be in love with a kid. I can't want to kiss him and... and do all these things. In my head i still feel his arms around me and the way he kisses me. But...that's not him.

Why not? I was in love with what people considered a kid.

Snake shook his head. It was Billy in your arms, the same mind, same emotions, same boy. Believe what you want but you know it's true. Just like I was that woman that came home that day.
