Triple-layer cake for the birthday boy!

...Oh.

[He chews on his lip, and looks around as if he's afraid someone might steal it. Then he leans in close to Patrick, alarmed.]

[Furrows his brow. Well, that's concerning.] We already had July, Ryan. We're all the way through August, now.

Right, right. [He rubs one eye.]

I remember. I'll have some cake. Thanks, Patrick. [Tries to smile.]

Good! [Will not sigh, will not sigh.]

Vanilla, or chocolate?

Ummm. Chocolate. Thanks.

No problem. [Gets him a piece.] So, how do you feel? Any older?

I mean. Nah. Just kind of the same...

Oh. Yeah, heh. It sort of works like that, I guess.

What would you like for your birthday, Ryan? Is there anything you need? Anything?

Um. I don't... think so...

[He picks at the cake icing.]

Really? Nothing? You don't want to do anything special? There's nothing you want?

Maybe some... new... shoes....?

Shoes! That's an awesome idea. We'll find you whatever shoes you'd like.

[Nods like he did something right and goes back to picking at his cake.]
