::smiles:: Today is my 18th birthday!

[after a long moment] What is it like? Growing up?

::tilts his head:: It's... nice. You gain more experience and meet new people and learn new things and it's nice to look back at everything you've done and then look forward at everything that still lies ahead.

[manages a weak, slightly faraway smile] I always wanted to.

Always wanted to what, grow up? Why can't you?

I'll never grow up. I haven't, for years. My Master made me this way.

Master? ::eyes widen a little:: Made you? What.. what are you?

[tilts his head a little before popping his fangs into view]

::inhales sharply and stumbles back, eyes widening in fear::

[doesn't seem really phased by the fear he can smell] What is your name?

::blinks owlishly a few times, still inching back:: Nick. What's yours?

[gives a small, fangy smile] Alexei.

N-nice to meet you ::back stiff and muscles tightened, still afraid::

[just smiles] You're afraid.

::tries not to let the weird sound escape his throat as he nods::

I did not mean to frighten you. [frowns, almost pouting]

Um... it's okay? [his eyes still wide]

Alexei, Alexei, it is not nice to frighten our new friend.

[petulant look] I didn't mean to . . .

Of course not, but you must remember, people have only recently become aware of our existence. They are still surprised by us.

But he asked.

True, but you could have started out by telling him.

But they never believe me when I just tell them.

Well, princeling, then you may show them.

[gives him a petulant look]

I'm hungry.

[chuckles] All right, all right, we'll go get dinner, my prince. What are you in the mood for tonight, hmm?
