I walked? [Turns to see what's there and shrugs when the answer appears to nothing.] One foot in front of the other! Why, where am I, anyway? I wasn't paying much attention, to be honest!

You're in North Carolina. This is my family's residence. But... [He hesitates, again looking past Dennis at nothing for a moment. He shakes his head.] Never mind. We just... we don't get many visitors.

That's kind of sad! Unless you don't like visitors, I suppose, and then it works out well for you! I'm Dennis, by the way: Dennis Creevey! Pleased to meet you!

It's better for them. [He steels himself, smiles and puts out a hand.] I'm Thomas Jackson. Call me Jack.

Just better. [Once again his eyes flick over to something that isn't there.] Our house is... different.

Is it surrounded by invisible things only you can see on account of some kind of charm and/or perception filter? Or are you just twitchy? That's okay, too; lots of people are! I have a friend who drums his fingers on things whenever he stops paying attention to them!

Not all of them are invisible.

They aren't? [He takes another look around.]

[nods] I thought you would have seen some.

They might only be visible to you! Although, I suppose, if I didn't know they were supposed to be invisible, I wouldn't notice anything strange about seeing -- sorry, what sort of 'them' are we talking about, exactly?

Everything. Things that aren't supposed to be. Things that people don't believe in. They sort of just... find their way here, eventually. Some are invisible. Some aren't.

Ghosts, unicorns, wizards, that sort of thing? Do they leave again?

[nods] Some do. A lot don't.

Oh, good! I'd hate to be permanently trapped in North Carolina! My dad would be ever so worried! That must be pretty interesting, though, meeting all these new things?

[Jack looks down and away.] Yeah. Interesting.

I guess it can pretty scary too, huh? Or just annoying! Our school has a poltergeist who likes to throw water balloons!

We have werewolves who ate our last tutor. [The words are out before he can stop them and he clamps his mouth shut, eyes wide.]
