I haven't screwed anyone. Though the majority of the school probably thinks my number is around a dozen guys. Sad thing is, it's only made me more alone since my best friend believed it in the first place. I mean for all the supposed action I'm getting, I haven't even been asked on a date. Kind of pathetic.

Don't feel bad. I've only been on one - but I... Eh. [He shrugged.] I'm not too worried about the whole dating thing.

I'm not really either. Just being ostracized hasn't left me many options other than maybe crushing on a gay guy I supposedly had sex with or oogling a kid in a woodchuck costume who I once supposedly kissed.

...Sounds to me like you need to go somewhere else with more options, because if the choices are a gay guy or a woodchuck, I think I'd move.

[That actually makes her laugh. It'd been weeks since she'd done that.] Well I graduate this year, so we'll see.

Planning on college? [Seemed like a viable question.]

Definitely. My English teacher would kill me if I didn't.

Nice. Ivy League. Cute and has brains. I'm not really sure. I've got the grades, excellent student. Parents would like Stanford or UC Berkeley, but I'd like to get out of California. Princeton, NYU, Georgetown, BU. What's UPenn like?

A lot of snobs. [He laughed aloud.] The education's great, don't get me wrong - I'm almost finished with my Pre-Law already, but I really hate the dorm life. I think I'm the lowest class person around there. Wouldn't have got in if it weren't for scholarships.

My parents are decently well off. Not rich, but typical middle class. They were hippies back in the day.

Mine are... Well, Dad's close to dirt poor and Mom gets by, but I managed to score a full ride as long as I keep my grades up - which is easy. [He didn't really have the air of someone who was bragging - just somebody who was telling the truth.]

Good for you... er... I don't even know your name. I'm Olive, Olive Penderghast. [She extended her hand.]

It's okay. My name is Olive. I think I got you beat. Hippie parents and all. I have an adoptive brother and my dad used to be gay.

Hey, at least you're not named River or Rainbow or something. And I've got two adoptive sisters and my dad is gay. [He grinned.]

My mother had hoards of lovers. Most of them were men. She's gotten into this habit of trying to relate to me by telling me her own sexual endeavours. [She makes a face.] They're good parents though. Strange, but good.

I think most parents fall into that "strange" category. But the important part is if they manage to be good, too.

I think you're right. I also think right now they're the closest thing I have to friends.

My dad's best friend is my older sister, so that's still fine with me.

Well I'm glad you approve, but that doesn't satiate my teenage need to split away from my parents. [Olive crossed her arms and smirked.]

If you go to college, you'll get the chance. Breaking away and all that comes naturally - if you dorm, anyway.

Probably will. If I go away that is.
