I don't think it... It's just a thought that's crossed my mind. I mean, it's kind of hard to imagine a guy like you would have any interest in someone like me.

I can't help it. I guess I just think if I see the best in people, they'll see it in themselves.

Things very rarely work like that.

I guess I'm just lucky.

Well, living at the hotel, everyone's always strived to do their best. So, I get to see it day after day, people seeing the best and striving for the best they can be.

You'd be surprised at how many people are actually just half-assing it.

[Lila frowned a little.] But... they work so hard...

Oh, of course they do.

[Way to burst her bubble, Jack. ;_;]

[What? He said they do]

[But if they're only half-assing it they're not doing their very best! Lila looked off to the side and pushed out a quiet sigh.] What's on the menu today?

You don't like what I said.

I don't like that everyone here isn't passionate about it.

You're only kidding yourself if you think everyone on staff is going to be passionate about what they do.

But... so many of them have been here for... [Lila paused, a thoughtful look overtaking her features.] Well, some of them for as long as I can remember! We pride ourself on having the the best people working here.

Thinking that absolutely everyone here is so very passionate about their jobs is just unrealistic. At least half of the people here now are only here because they've had the job so long and don't think they could do anything else. Others are just here collecting a paycheque. Sure, there are some people who come here everyday with genuine smiles on their faces, because they really love their jobs, and they really strive to be all they can be, but the number of people who do that is a lot smaller than you'd think. I haven't known any of these people as long as you have, but being on staff with them gains me a different perspective on what's going on with them. You're the boss's daughter. Of course they're going to make it seem like they're doing their absolutely best around you.

[Her lips bowed into a frown, but Lila nodded slowly. It sort of made sense, but it still didn't make her happy. It wasn't so much that people didn't absolutely love theirs jobs this time that brought the frown to her face as the thought that they faked it when she was around. They didn't have to do that.]

[She's practically their boss too. They feel they have to. Jack sort of feels the same way sometimes] Sorry.

It's okay. [No it's not. :c ] You know, I think I'll pass on breakfast.
