Doesn't sound terribly interesting to me. His whole idea of material poverty being some kind of virtue is frankly ridiculous. It's just mildly annoying, that's all.

Perhaps, but living so contrarily to the expectations of society is what made him notorious, as well as forming the basis for his radical philosophies. I would say he strove to be annoying, which perhaps makes him a better role model for you than me.
