I think I take it back about wanting to be an adult. It's too confusing. There are too many layers and secrets. You guys make stuff harder than it should be!
*grins* More fun. 'sides, that's just when I'm not working.
When more and more things happen to you and you grow to know more and more people, you see things aren't cut out in black and white paper. But... if you keep too many secrets, you just get lost inside your head. Some secrets you get to keep because you've promised to a friend, and a very few because they need to be kept - like you shouldn't have learned something in the first place - but the lower you keep the count at, the better.
But kids can be simple. I mean I fight with James or Al and then they forgive me and it's over with. Adults all carry this stuff around forever and ever and ever. It's just... MESSY.
Things were very complicated back when our parents were our age. I believe the one thing they all share in common is the hope we will never understand the choices they made. I'm not sure that is enough common ground for them to bury old disagreements and rivalries.
Our responsibility is not to the past, Lily Potter. It's to the future. The more we achieve as progress is made the less reasons our parents and grandparents have to reflect on the past, you see?
I think so. I don't want to really fix the past, I just think that nobody believes people can change. That someone who was an enemy 20 years ago might not be that person anymore. I believe we change. I have to.
It's not a matter of changing though. Wars happen because both sides believe they are right. Once a war is over, even if both sides call a truce, chances are everyone still believes they are at least partially right. They lived it, it's more real to them than it can be to us, so they may not be able to let it go. Sometimes you can forgive, but it's rare that you forget. Unless you use a memory spell of course.
I started out trying to be a beater but I don't think it's the right position for me so I started to throw myself apples and try and catch them and I sort of got confused and was going really really fast on Dad's broom and then it hit the tree.
But it was worth falling and worth getting grounded I was moving faster than anything ever and it was so much fun even if just lasted for a second or two
It's complicated. I know that's a horrible explination, but it's true. Our family hasn't gotten along with the Malfoys since before I was born.
But that doesn't mean you can't be friends with Scorpius, or any Slytherin or Malfoy, but it's going to take a bit for me and your Dad to get used to it.
I know I ask nosy questions and I stick my foot in my mouth and I'm not... what would Aunt Hermione call it? PRUDENT but I love you and I'm proud to be a Weasley/Potter. And nobody can change that!

... and I for one try to cut down on the secrets. Straightforward and honest is... easier.

I mean that in a good way! You're not all covered in armor all the time.

But all these old rivalries and all the old *hate* is bad for any of them to be carrying around. It's like poison and it doesn't get better with time.
*softly*
It just makes me sad to think of people being stuck always in the past when they're not happy there.

But on the happy side of things Professor Snape is going to tutor me until I can go to Hogwarts.
I didn't think Mum was going to let him when she found out I smashed Daddy's broom into an apple tree but she just grounded me!

You're quite lucky you were not seriously injured. Professor Snape is a brilliant instructor from what my father says. No one is better with potions.

Professor Snape is really great I know by the time I get to Hogwarts I'll know all kinds of things!
