No, they aren't. Passion can grow and becomes something grand. Lust is transitory and often selfish.

That is most certainly part of the difference. While lust dies when the object is acquired passion grows from acquiring the object.

Exactly, yes.
Which is why we artists are such passionate creatures. We are forever acquiring the object of our affection, on a good day, and so the passion grows until we are consumed with it.
That's how it's supposed to work, anyway.

Arts alone are not the sole place of passion. One can be passionate for anything in which the enjoyment never diminishes but grows with time.

I didn't mean to imply it was only artistic pursuits. My parents are passionate about each other. Deeply passionate. It's precious.
