Oh, I'm terribly sorry to hear that. I've been involved in, and seen many wars, unfortunately. I've never lost a son, but I did leave a granddaughter behind. I've also lost friends, but many due to my own selfishness.
Perhaps the prime component of war is selfishness. It creates and manifests in corrupted ideologies. Seventeen years is but a blink to me, but I understand it's quite significant for humans. Are you able to know anything of your son?
Sometimes our kind live great ages too. I suppose it's the magic in us. Rarely more than two-hundred though, I think. *nods, quietly* Yes. I kept close watch over him. He ended the war. I'm very proud of the young man he's grown to be and very sorry he was born to be a soldier.
And what is your kind, if I may ask? Dreadful that someone young must be conditioned in such a way. I've been to planets where children were the only soldiers; it's not a truth that ever sits well with me.
I'm a witch. My kind are witches and wizards. *nods* It really is...*starts then and stares at him, in horror* That is terrible. Why doesn't anyone stop it?
It's appalling, the things I've seen, but I do my best to negotiate and stop injustice. That's partly why I travel like I do. Many of my kind are content to sit on their own planet and allow terrible things to go on around them, but I simply cannot accept that things must be so bad. If it is within my ability to fix things, I do so. I always try to do what's right. *sighs* Not the easiest thing at times.
