I think I do every time I spend weeks preparing for a job and being everyone but myself.

I can relate in a way.

I guess I spend a lot of time trying to be perfect for something or someone instead of being myself.

Sounds entirely like my life. Why do you do it? I know why I do, but curious.

I guess to feel appreciated. I don't know why I do it, actually.

Well, that's nice of you. I don't exactly have a job. I guess what you said made you think of my position at home.

I just try not to talk about it. What do you go for a living?

Got it. No questions. Just research, mostly. Sideline in art, which was my college major, but now I spend most of my time researching others. I work for one of those companies that catch cheaters.
