[Hey there old acquaintance, Dr. Garvey is here too. And looking a little worse for the wear, to be honest. In addition to the buzz cut that's rendered nearly all of his hair out of commission, he's pale with bags around his eyes and an overall terrible greenish color. He looks up when Jade comes in and gives her his very best smile. Which isn't too good either these days.]
[Jade tries to smile back, but well, being tested isn't anything she is looking forward to. And it sucks, and she's terrified, and the only person she's told is some stranger she's met.]
Which one are you looking at? [Henry looks to the left and to the right as though he expects she's referring to someone else. He doesn't think his face looks too friendly these days. In fact he doesn't even look at it in the mirror anymore. Easiest way to give up hope is to catch a good glimpse of yourself looking dead already. He reaches down under him and grabs his crutches, then struggles to stand and make his way over to her with laborious steps so they don't have to talk across the entire waiting room.]
And then next time I'll be sure to make you. [He won't tell her that's not necessary because he knows he wouldn't want anyone else telling it to him. So Henry downplays the whole thing, despite every move feeling like it's one of his last. Is this what they mean when they talk about one foot in the grave? He sits down heavily, just barely keeping a pained groan at bay, then turns to Jade.]
I guess not. Your face doesn't look like you're going in to just another check up. Want to talk?
[While he expected as much, it's still bitter news. Henry feels a pull in his chest. He's long since given up on anger, but it hurts to think of how cruel the world really must be. And she's too young to have to deal with this. He doesn't think, he just sets a very thin and trembling hand on her knee and gives it a pat.]
[sucking on a lollipop. Half his face is black and blue and just as swollen, his bottom lip is all blue. His left wrist is wrapped in a cold compress. Despite it all, he mostly just looks bored. Looking around, he spots the girl.]
Wanna go around back and [he makes a none-too-subtle puff-puff-pass gesture] ?
Bit of a prude, aye? Betchya own a bunch of cardigans too.
Just thought you looked like you needed some. I'm a good samaritan like that. Anyway, whatever's wrong with you can't be so bad. You aren't like bleeding out or anything are you?
