The Daleks; an unmerciful, mutated race, exterminating everything in their path. It was within my means to wipe them out, but ultimately...I could not.

Maybe it just wasn't the right time, Doctor. Believe it or not, timing's everything when it comes to those sorts of things.

The right time...for a number of reasons; had I done it, I would have been no better than them.

Also, had you done it too soon, you would've upset the future. And not just for here, but for a whole lot of everywheres.

Yes, unfortunately. I'd be quite happy if they never troubled anyone, but it's their sole reason for existence, I'm afraid. Tell me, how did you first encounter them? Was it with me or rather, a future me?

The buggers we after the Arm of Omegon at the time. The Professor, and by that I mean future you, and I had to get the Arm away from the one faction of Daleks to make sure the ones with old what's his face, Davros, got the Arm. It was quite a light show when it went all explody.

Not a very pleasant time, by the sound of it. I'd rather hoped the universe had seen the last of Davros, he's not a fellow I've ever lamented the loss of. At least you recovered the Arm. And I'm quite happy to know that I still choose the best companions, even in my old age. *grin*
