Things are... interesting. I spent two days as a 9 year old while you were gone. I got to play with my Neville, so that was wonderful.

Oh my! *laughs* That must've been fun.

It was. Other than fighting with Lucius, as per usual.

You fought with him?

well, argued. Frank, on the other hand, punched him in the nose.

Good on Frank! *coughs* ...well, I mean, I was sort of wondering when that'd happen.

Well, it wouldn't have happened, had Lucius not pushed him. He kept saying things about their "shared history" - meaning me, of course. *sighs* Frank had just barely found out about it, and Lucius was already pushing at him about it. *frowns*

It got worse and worse, then Frank punched him. And then Lucius went on to talk about me being spoiled goods... at which point the fight ended, but I was ready to maim Lucius just on principle.

Lucius got off lightly, then. Too lightly.

So, a nine year old? How, by the Gods, did that happen?

Yes, he really did.

we have no idea how it happened. It happened to a lot of us... Severus thinks that perhaps we all had lessons to learn... *shrugs*

Still, what fun!

I wonder if I could manage it, changing my form. My brothers and sisters do it all the time.

Y'know, I wasn't like this for very long the first time.

*hands her a slew of colouring books and crayons*

I know. *settles down, opening the first colouring in book to a picture of a mermaid*

My Mommy knew, but she didn't tell my Daddy I was special.

*smiles fondly at her* Why didn't she tell him? *tilts head*

*doesn't look up from her colouring; the mermaid's tail is being done in stripes of neon blue and yellow*

She was scared. She didn't want him to be mad at her.

Beautiful mermaid, Darcy. *touches her hair softly, the movement very motherly*

And when he found out, did he get mad?

*looks up, and for a moment their eyes meet, before she looks down again*

Well, that's all right then, isn't it? *smiles gently* Do you mind if I colour in another book?

Sure. *pushes the book and some crayons over to her*

My Daddy didn't understand, though. And the other kids made fun of me sometimes. They said I was weird.
