Ever think stories can be rewritten?

Of course, I do it all the time.

I don't believe any story is meant to be set in stone. That's history, and even that is told through a dozen filters.

We change our stories every day.

Don't buy it, sorry.

I make my living, pretty successfully, in the practice of telling a story and struggling with how to tell it. I know there are multiple ways I could tell a story, some better than others, some just a little different.

Maybe the range of choices we have is limited, but I still believe we have the choices.

I'm sorry, I don't understand.

I am. *sighs* Alot more than the next person.

Because I've seen some stories get changed and it ends up being the complete opposite of how they were told.

Cinderella. She wasn't a nice girl at all. She was the one that wished for her father to die because he left her. The wicked stepsisters weren't wicked, and the stepmother really was a sweet woman who just wanted to help the girl through her fathers death.

I'd like to think so.

I’m not so sure that I believe in fate.

[identity profile] possessingbadge.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah but it's false. It's never as good as the original even if it has a happy ending the second time. The audience knows too much, expects the outcome, and learns nothing about themselves. You're almost better off just writing the sequel.

Fate is fate. You aren't going to change it and to think you can is incredibly arrogant. But I don't think of fate the same way a lot of people do. I think there are certain things that are going to happen in our lives regardless of what we do but I think there are infinite ways to reach those points. When we are done, we die. No point in sticking around after the mission is done.

Interesting like weird or interesting like... you know what? Fuck it. I'll take it either way. *She extends her hand out to him* Lauren Order.

*She smiles back as she shook his hand* Arguing is probably one of the safest things you can do with me but I hear ya on the good points thing. I hate it when I've got my heart set on something people come in with logic and just rain on my parade. It's enough to make you want to thump them on the forehead.

Funny. You didn't strike me as the DJ type and I'm pretty good at reading people. How long have you been doing it?

Was your dad like a musician or something? And what's wrong with being a writer? If it's something that makes you happy off put away.

I'm a cop.

I don't think writer necessarily makes you soft. I mean it's not cattle herding or anything but it's not like you writes sonnets and junk, right?

[identity profile] possessingbadge.livejournal.com 2008-07-03 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
well, there you go.

[identity profile] mrharleyquin.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that depends on what sort of story you are referring to.
