War is ugly-- makes everything ugly.

Ugly, ugly... Red is not a nice color when it spills from someone's heart and lungs and everywhere.

((Her little lips twist as she looks down at the ground, using the tip of her shoe to draw a small heart in the dirt.)) But things can get happy-happy again if everyone smiles. No frowning, all smiling~ It would be nice, maybe.

Life is a long word. Liiiiife. So life should be long too.

Concisely put- and true.

While it's ongoing? No. But after- well, I wouldn't say that.

It doesn't easily get easier, I suppose.

It's not meant to be pleasant.

And what it is I'm sure everyone knows, whether they've participated or not. [And Edmund is sure this boy has seen his fair share of it.]

Are you a soldier?

[Katniss sighs.]

Uglier when the soldiers are forced to fight.

[And she curls her legs to her body.]

If it's one you believe in.

This...I don't know how anyone can believe in this, Peeta.

Finally, a Peeta! :)

( He isn't wrong, that much is for certain. In a world that has been torn apart by famine, bombs, and oppression, there is little beauty to be found. She just nods, pulls her knees up closer to her chest. )

Do you ever think about what it was like before? Before there were districts, before the Capitol?

What time frame is your Peeta from?

( Every now and then Katniss allows herself the briefest reprieve to daydream about a time before life became nothing but a string of horrors one after another. She thinks about what it would be like for Prim, how her father never would have died. )

Yeah, me either. ( It's a lie, of course, but now she feels as though the daydreams are pointless or immature, so why own up to them? )
