[He was just making a quick store run and it led him past the church juust about the time he saw Sam walking past... so, of course he's gonna have to slow the piece of crap he's driving to roll down the window. Not like there's much traffic on this particular street to get pissy at him yet.]
[...shit. Shitshitshit. And he can't even lie his way out of this one, Dean probably saw him exiting the church...shit.]
Shut up, dude. [So he's kinda flustered, and he hates it. He starts walking down the sidewalk at the brisk pace on the same side of the road as the car.]
[Pouty-ish glare. He pauses. Fine. He grumbles as he goes around to the passenger side of the car and gets in, slams the door, and pulls his coat tighter.]
Thank you! Same to you - hope you had a nice one :D
[Oh, come on, don't give him that look. He waits for Sam to get in before starting towards the motel they're staying at.] So, you gonna tell me what the hell that was about or what?
And quit lookin' like I just saw you leaving a porn shop or something. [pauses.] Gotta say, at least I could understand that crap, Sammy.
[Sam sighs - he knew Dean wouldn't understand.] It's Christmas. I went to church, like millions of other people. I don't think it's a horribly big deal, Dean. [He leans his head against the window pane and stares out silently.]
[He shrugs, trying to appear nonchalant.] It's...it's worth a shot. [In truth, though, faith is a pretty hard thing to lose, and Sam needs it now than ever. Even if logic is telling him otherwise.] It's...'s not a big deal, Dean. Just something I do sometimes when I - [Feel scared. Overwhelmed. Like I'm drowning and I don't know how to even get out of bed in the morning.]
Look - sometimes, I need help, Dean. Help from someone who might - might have the power to give me peace. I just - I really want that. Need that. [He bites his lip, still looking out the window.] It's more then that, too. I want - redemption as well, and I'm not...not sure how to get it. Not with what I am.
Hn. [His response is a grunt. It's probably pretty damn selfish how much it stings, makes him feel inadequate all over again to know he can't exactly--help or give any of that peace Sam needs. He gets it, he does, but not being able to help Sam has always been a blow.] Yeah, well. Thought you thought you paid for all the crap you did while you were roomin' it up with the devil?
[Like he can ever really redeem for what he did, no matter how much Hell he suffered. Sam slides a bit lower in the seat, and decides not to voice this thought.] You're probably right. It's stupid. Forget it.
Look, Sam... [He pauses, frowning. He doesn't know what to say and he doesn't see the point in church and crap, it's true.] If it helps, it helps, I guess. [And Sam... kinda needed whatever help he could get, he figured.] But now that the church crap's outta the way, you're getting blitzed with me. It's Christmas, you owe me a gift. And you owe it to yourself to relax a little, jeez. [And right now? Him and Sam spending as normal a Christmas as possible together was more than he could ask for.]
