Okay to leave work early today?

[Morningstar does not actually look up from the book he's slowly paging through.]

Oh? Why?

[That gets his attention.]

Is there? Whyever not?

[This sounds amusing. Morningstar needs no other reason.]

I'm afraid I simply can't spare you. Perhaps you'll be lucky and she'll be too busy to stop by.

Can't possibly.

[Morningstar turns over another page, picks up a pen and makes a notation on the notepad beside the counter, and points at a half-empty box of books.]

Be a dear and finish that box, will you?

[She can't tell from outside whether Morningstar, or someone like him, is inside. She can certainly tell that a man with Johnny's height and hair is. But knowing one's there without the certainty of the other won't make her enter. She can hang around a few feet from the door, and finger-wave the moment he steps outside.]

[If that was Morningstar he was talking to- she can't tell from her vantage point- she might owe the guy a present. Or something. More likely 'or something'.

But right now, here's a gleeful expression for the one who's feeling down.
] What's the matter?

Nah, that's all right. Bosses can be a pain in the neck sometimes. [She starts walking, hands shoved in her coat pockets.]

Guess it was busy if he needed you to stay longer, huh?
