I had a pretty bad day yesterday--I mean, as far as my days go, these days. I've forgotten what a "good" day feels like.

. . . that's awful. I'm sorry. [And there's nothing insincere or any suggestion of platitude or lip service in it; he's actually sorry, in a genuine, heartfelt way.]

[That's weird. Really, she doesn't know how to react to a stranger who doesn't know her story giving her that sort of reaction.]

I'll be fine.

Will be, but aren't. [Beat.] Sorry. I'm terminally nosy, it's a Thing. But I also know I never say "I'll be fine" when I actually am fine. Is all.
