Oh, I've never been a member of the "sobriety means happiness" club, especially not since being forced into it. *sighs* Life, my good man. We've never really had the best relationship.

Reckon, I like fooling myself sobriety will make things a might better. Anything has to be better than drowning in a bottle of liquor. Guess, I ain't going to get sober real quick seen as drinking keeps me living.

I ain't had much of relationship with life either. Real shame it ain't sweet on you either. Why is it kicking you around?

You know, they always say that being sober is better. I get the feeling that you and I are exceptions to that.

*small shrug* It's always the usual reasons. I'll spare you the details.

Yeah, always some small comfort to know I ain't the only one getting solace out of a bottle of liquor. Some days it sure feels like it.

What do y'all do for a living?

Everyone's their own special kind of drunk.

I used to be a detective. Homicide, the really nasty stuff. But I gave that up a few months ago. Took some personal time until that ran out in its own spectacular way, so now I'm working for the other side as a criminal defense attorney. It's not as satisfying, but it pays the bills.

*eyes him* And you? Somehow, I can't picture you as the 9 to 5 office type.

Criminal defense, uh. Well, it sure nice to know some one looks out for the wicked. To tell the truth, I've never had much relationship with the law, guess you could say we've butted heads a few times.

Nope, I sure ain't no office worker. If you count drifter as an occupation, that's my job.

Drifter, huh? I think I'm jealous.

Don't be. Ain't nothing romantic about wondering where your next feed is going to come from when your broke and your stomach is crying out for something substantial other than whiskey. Ain't nothing to want when it's pouring down rain and you're cold and all you got is your coat, that bottle of whiskey and dreams of wanting a nice warm body beside you.

Don't be jealous of it darlin', drifting ain't no life for anyone to want. Even saying it in jest ain't right.

I haven't been "right", not in a long time. Believe me, romanticism plays no part in my desire. I just feel that sometimes? The misery on the inside should be matched on the outside. It feels unbalanced otherwise.

*laughs a little* I'm sorry. That just made me sound royally crazy, didn't it?

Don't apologize, makes a whole lot of sense to me. Don't sound crazy at all. Could be course I meet my far share of folks who don't do things by half, I'm one of 'em. Reckon, you might be too.
