[This is not his first experience with a Hulk, and for personal reasons this is now possibly the first time in his life he DOESN'T want to hurt someone.
The only exit it up. Since he can fly this really isn't an issue, thankfully.]
Hey there big guy, calm down! I don't want to hurt you.
[Hulk takes a running leap and attempts to swat you out of the air. Luckily, agility is not easy for a beast of his tonnage. He smacks into the ground, absorbing the impact.]
[The other guy isn't too enraged, and Bruce pushes against the haze at the sound of a reasonable human voice. Hulk frowns at Matthew and stands-- just in time to get a missile in the chest. Reinforcements are here. The Hulk roars in fury; Bruce has left the building, folks. Don't they know he gets stronger the more you piss him off?]
...oh fuck me, are you SERIOUS?! You morons, he was going to listen oh... for...
[Matthew's temper really isn't very good either, as is evident by the fact that the helicopter trying to riddle the Hulk with bullets suddenly explodes and the oncoming military vehicles suddenly flip over.]
[Sigh. This is not going well. The question is: let the Hulk rip apart a bunch of soldiers - which is very, VERY tempting - or stop him so that he doesn't get in more trouble.]
...I am not cut out for this hero shit...
[The bullets fired bounce off off... nothing. The same nothing standing between the Hulk and the soldiers, invisible yet solid. Of course, when the Hulk runs INTO it, Matthew reacts as if someone's taken a baseball bat to his head.]
[Hulk is all set to pound the shit out of these pissants, but running full-force into an invisible wall stuns him for a moment. He hears Matthew shouting, but now he's furious. Keeping Hulk from what he wants? Not a smart idea. Hulk begins slamming himself against the barrier, anger spiking higher with each failed attempt, not noticing the sudden frenzied activity of the soldiers on the other side.]
[That definitely gets Hulk's attention. He immediately turns his attention from the barrier and roars at Matthew in annoyance. He's trying to break a barrier here, stop being a nuisance.
Then he sees the nosebleed. Put two and two together, big guy...]
[if anything's going to give Bruce an edge to break through, it's mention of the people he loves. Jennifer's face surfaces to his memory, and a modicum of rationality returns to Hulk's face. Run that way? He can do that. But he's going to flip over a car on the way, because fuck you.
Hulk ends up back next to Matthew, looking down at him.] NOW WHAT, SMART GUY?
[huffing in agreement, Hulk lifts the nearest electrical pole up, then starts swinging the lines from side to side, building momentum until all the lines are shaking, and yanks-- sending live high voltage lines down along two or three blocks.]
[Perfect. The fear the soldiers exude give him an in, which is helpful with so many people present. He gives them a very solid suggestion - HE WENT THATTA WAY - and then gestures for the Hulk to follow him quickly down a side street.]
[usually Hulk isn't keen on doing anything that isn't a direct outlet for his rage, and running away isn't exactly satisfying. But this man is actively trying to protect him, and knows Jennifer. There's a possibility this man will help Hulk find solitude. So Hulk follows.]
[Maybe it's the shock of seeing Jennifer in the middle of the street after three years. Maybe it's hearing his name said with affection rather than fear. But there's a break in Hulk's concentration, and he stops short.]
[Her expression softens as he stops. If he hasn't gone on to try to flatten her, he can't be entirely overwhelmed by the rage. Which means this might not be a disaster. She keeps talking.]
[after all these years she still knows exactly what to say, as if she can see right through him to the core of his heart. All Hulk ever wants is quiet, to be left alone. He rumbles an agreement.]
