A strange place to be hanging out.

It is all part of the calling, I am afraid. [He peers down into the murky alleyways as if he can actually see something down there.] I had forgotten how bloody boring standing watch can be.

Standing watch? Who are you watching for?

Trouble. Generally of the large, nasty, police-cannot-cope-with kind.

Ah. Those. I used to do that too...

Really? Then you know how boring it is after a while.

But we're heading into the witching hours, when things tend to get their worst.

Do you need help? I could listen for you.

It's a good place to watch from. But you must get bored...

An extra set of ears is always welcome. I am D. As it turns out the quarry may end up just being muggers and such tonight, but...a hazard to the innocent is a hazard to the innocent.

[He comes over and gives her a hug, because yay hugging Blaze. He nuzzles the top of her head.]

It pays off every time we stop someone.

[She hugs him back, tipping her head up to kiss him.]

I can imagine. There's a few people I've gone out of my way to keep safe, but stopping bigger things would be rewarding.

[He returns the kiss enthusiastically but does his best not to smother her.]

Yes, well. Sometimes I wonder why I do this, but I have met most of my friends this way.

[She makes a pleased noise and snuggles up against him.]

Well, at least there's that.

[He wraps an arm around her and continues his watch, though he's now a little (pleasantly) distracted.]

[She might not be able to help as much as she would like. But even a little help can change the tides]

That is a good philosophy to have.

Before I was anything I was a great warrior. I have always been made for battle, and now...this is the best use of my abilities.

[She smiles, content with him. For a while she simply basks in that feeling, then sort of stretches out, taking in the flavor of the night. It's a good one tonight.]

[He stands behind her, arms wrapped around her as he scans the night with all his senses. The only thing he notices besides her is an affectionate bat swooping past.]

I am sort of on... forced vacation from using some of my abilities. It can be hard...

[She looks up as the bat swoops by, offers a silent greeting and an offer of a resting place, if it's wings are tired.]

It's a quiet night, the city feels good.

That happened to me for a whole year once. It was...mortifying. But it is endurable, and afterwards I was stronger because I had found ways to compensate that then became assets.

[The bat chirps cheerily and lands in Drac's hair. He sighs good-naturedly.]

Yes. I had hoped for a peaceful night for once.

A year sounds just about the 'time off' I have to take. But I am trying different aspects of helping.

[If it makes you feel better, her good mood starts radiating from her when the bat lands and she has the warmest smile. She had a natural affinity for cats since they raised her, but really all animals have a place in her heart.]

I know what you mean. It's been so noisy in my territory recently. [The city, her territory. Same thing.]

[He curls around her from behind and rests his chin on her head.] Want to go flying again in a bit?

[There are bonuses to being a bit small, and having someone as tall as Vlad is. She smiles at the suggestion.] Yes, I'd love to!
