Okay... I gotta ask... What're you doing?

They want to cut it down... I am not going to let them.

Why do they want to cut it down?

They want to build some fancy high-rise apartment on the land. Tree is in the way... [Pam pouts, hugging the tree in question]

So why not let them cut it down and plant another tree elsewhere?

The tree was here first.

It's a plant that can be easily replaced. Loggers do it all the time.

[Eyes his suit carefully] Some things that are done 'all the time' are not always the right thing to do.

*quirks a brow* Like whaling, over fishing, dumping toxic waste into rivers, murder, rape, genocide, religious fanaticism, ritual sacrifice, and a heap of other things that are a lot worse than cutting down a tree... in a city... where that's what was intended to happen to the land from the start...

If you want to make things right and fair, why not actually try defending something that can think or is going to go extinct? Trees can be replaced in massive numbers. All they have to do is be planted.

Unless this tree has some special importance to you as a person, what's the point of defending something that can come a dime a dozen and is in the way?

I protest many of those things you listed. [Pam ran her fingers across her chains.]

If we continue to think of trees as a dime a dozen, sooner or later we run out of dimes.

What about you? What do you defend?

And yet, here you are, tied to a tree.

The counter being that if we run out of dimes that's a grand amount of dozens.

If I told you, you'd think I was nuts. Or you might run screaming. *pause* Okay, aside from the fact that you're chained to a tree. So... you'd scream, you just wouldn't be able to run.

Alright, I defend my coven. I'm from the year 2017 - after the bombs. And yes, when I say coven, I mean vampires - not witches. *flashes his fangs*

Oh I do that too. [Not the whaling ships thing. Nope not this girl.]

[She studies him for a moment when he flashes the fangs] Beautiful. [Pause] That is the wrong word isn't it?

[Then another word makes her react] Bombs? They really drop the bombs on us? Dammit!

*facepalm* Did you really have to say that? Really? I'm male, don't do that.

...When talking to a guy... yeah... If I was female then it would make more sense. *pause* What the heck is beautiful about fangs, anyway?

*waves a hand* Drop? No. And it's not a foreign country that does it - at least not to us. *sighs* Bombs are places all over the world. Nukes of various power. The US got it the worst because they had to take out the entire government. But China, Russia, Europe, Japan, Korea, and just about everyone else that has any power in the world. Everyone got it - and it was elements of their own militaries that did it.

They got sick of fighting wars, so they decided to end them once and for all. Didn't work. There's still wars. Still fighting. Hell, it's more common now. Law and order is a thing of the past, and the world is like a horror flick. Vampires, werewolves, zombies, mutated creatures of all kinds - everything from giant mutated insects to twisted sea life.

And it all happens five years from now. *looks up at the leaves of the tree* Can you see why this tree doesn't seem so important anymore?

That was my point [But if he is not interested in trading flirtatious, Pam will adjust appropriately.]

I have always been curious about vampirism. The science behind it.

[Listening to his explanation, Pam nods] I can see why it is not important to you. I must seem so ridiculous... trying to save something that is doomed in five years.

*smirks a bit* Really? Was it now? *stands close and whispers in her ear* Do you honestly think it wise to tease a male vampire. *leans back and gives a quick wink - he's not against flirting, he just doesn't as a rule, but being male he can't help it long*

Science is a rather appropriate word for it - at least for my kind. There are others. My... species... I suppose you could call it, is the result of rapid evolution due to exposure to isotopes in nuclear fallout. I'm from Bakersfield, California.

*nods solemnly, then smiles and brushes a bit of hair behind her ear* Yes, but at the same time... it's nice to be reminded that people once cared about more than just survival.

*presses against her a bit* Even when you're chained up? *smirks a little* You pick some interesting times to tease, gorgeous.

*strokes her hair* No such thing as caring too much. Never think there is.

Pamela... a crafted Greek name... and Isley... British. Interesting. Lovely name for a lovely woman. *smiles* So... have you always been so... active? *ah, but as an activist, or otherwise?*

I like to live dangerous. [A bad habit of hers. But worth it when she gets this kind of reaction]

[She swallows softly] I would love to study you further. See how you tick. [Pause] Great... that must have sounded weird...

[The touches to her hair send more shivers down her body] I keep active often [Smile]

Doesn't get more dangerous than flirting with the next tier of the food chain, hm? *stays against her and rakes his fangs over her neck*

*grins and chuckles softly, shaking his head* Only if I don't get to study you more as well. Deal?

*continues to stroke her hair and down her back* I bet I could help you stay active longer. If you have the endurance, of course. *smiles*

Thinking of me as a snack, mmm? [Pam shivers at the rake of those fangs at her neck. Her hand lifts to touch his face softly] And like you said... I can't run.

No one has complained yet.

And if I am? *nips gently* Question is... would you even want to?

Ah, but you've only had humans, haven't you?

No. Not really. [Pam softly laughs]

As far as I know they were humans.

Good, because if you did I'd have to hunt you. *wicked little grin* Of course, you might enjoy getting bit.

*amused smile* If you thought they were, believe me, they were. If they weren't, you might not be alive still.

Now who is the tease?

[A serious look is cued] Does that mean you are going to kill me?

Turnabout is fair play, no?

*smiles softly* I don't kill people unless I have to - and the only people I have to kill are those that would try and kill me. You have nothing to fear, beautiful.

I just bet you prefer being in control anyway.

[Pam finds a joint in her pocket, and places it in her mouth] You kill to survive. I understand that. You must be on edge all the time.

But of course. Especially when I'm in control of such a beautiful creature as yourself.

*plucks it from her lips and holds it behind his back with one hand, the other stroking along her neck* Sometimes, but no, not all the time. Actually, it sounds horrible just to say it, but it's not that bad. Just... lonely when you're the one in charge. I'm the leader, so people tend to... keep distance.

[She gives him a half-smile when he takes her joint] Let me guess, I am going to have to beg to get it back?

[She arches her neck slightly, noting his fascination with stroking it. Makes sense... he is a vampire after all] I could keep you company.
