I-I---[His voice is a soft tremble and takes a little step back]. ---can’t do this, please, not again. Not today. That was the plan, trying to stop them from doing this headhunting. I don’t understand why we have to do this to each other.
[There is a pause as he gives a sob of shaky pent up emotions].
The stranger just gives a mild shake of his head. He's not worried about second hand smoke. All the same, he'll just keep standing here, slightly out of a blade's reach, with his intense gaze and raspy foreign accent.]
[Interestingly the newbie is standing exactly the same distance, just out of reach of a blade].
Fiscalia Especializada en Atencion de Delitos Contra la Salud ---[He pauses to light up a smoke and chuckles sheepishly.] Sorry, it means Federal Police of Mexico. Federales to the Mexican locals.
[Offers up the cigarette pack.] Would you like one?
The old pirate was not buying the newbie act. One of his talents was being able to feel the age of another Immortal. He would let him play his game and see where it led.
"Some of us are quite reasonable. Not all are head hunters."
I get twitchy if I don’t have one. My only vice. [From behind his cigarette smoke, his gaze is settling on Connor, assessing the Immortal.]
For me it was just familiar ground. Russian Military was going no where and I couldn’t stand the thought of a desk job, I need to help people. So I took my mother’s dual Mexican citizenship and worked on shutting down drug cartels. I’m sorry I’m babbling.
[There’s a hint of a smile and he lowers his gaze.] Guess I walked into that one, uh.
I-I- Please, I don’t want to fight. [Suddenly there are tears in his eyes as he looks up]. It is too hard dealing with this again, while trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
Good lord, he seemed determined to play this out. "Yeah you did." Morgan quirked an eyebrow at that. "If I'd wanted a fight, I'd unsheathed my sword before this."
[He’s only just began. There’s a brief flicker of thought in his eyes as he thinks about adding in a bat of eyelashes. Instead he holds out his both hands, palms up and the emotion in his eyes appear to surrender entirely to Morgan.]
I have no sword. You and I are not like that, you cherish life, so do I. I’m a cop. I want to protect lives and did, I brought drug cartels down. I was there when they were in Mexico having a shoot out in a school. Kids were dying. I fought to save those kids. I died there and became this. I can’t kill.
His eyes narrowed at that. This fellow was laying it on kinda thick. Morgan was tempted to laugh. He was trying so hard to appear an innocent, a hero. And batting his eyelashes would have just pissed Morgan off.
"You know, your story would be more believable if you didn't over embellish," Morgan said. He stayed out of sword range. "I highly doubt you were ever a cop. A cop wouldn't make such assumptions."
I’m not a cop talking to you right now. I’m just a guy who’s confused about what going on in his life, who’s telling you his life as it was before this. No over embellishment is needed there. I’m just a guy… who makes assumptions.

[Not that he's above headhunting, but he does tend to be selective. Also he's not about to start a fight with somebody who looks that upset.]

[Runs a trembling hand across his face and searches his pockets for his cigarettes and lighter]. Jesus, what a day. You don’t mind if I smoke do you?
[He’s shaking so bad he can hardly work his lighter.]

I was hoping, believing, what we are could be reasoned with. I guess I’m still too naïve about us.

I haven’t been around long enough to find the good ones.
[There’s a soft tremble in his voice and his eyes are showing fearfulness.] Are you a good one?
no subject
No, thanks. Gave it up a while back.
[It also means an excuse to stay out of reach.]
Sounds like a useful job.

A Police job could come in handy... for cleaning up messes.
[He's never gotten along well with the authorities, but he can see where an immortal on the inside would have some definite advantages.]

Are you suggesting I become a dirty cop?

Dirty cops take bribes and beat up innocents. I'm just suggesting you make sure you don't get a murder rap for being part of the Game.

You can walk away if you don’t like that.
