Hmph. That shit may work for you as long as you don't need to stay off the grid, which in your case may be a while, but the day you need to stick to back roads, it won't be worth shit.
[Blade sighs. But the god-boy is polite in his frustrating ignorance, so he'll be nice. It isn't stupidity, which Blade can't stand.] All cities, towns, and places out in BFE got back roads. Roads that most people don't use because they don't know they exist, or roads only the locals use. That little toy you got there sticks mostly to the highways. Back roads have less traffic, which can make 'em faster.
As for the grid, yeah, some cities are on a grid, but not all. Depends on when they were formed. Older cities have roads along what used to just be trails. Grids are easier, some numbered streets go north/south, others east/west. You always know about where you are on a grid.
[The modern world is still a little confusing, okay? From the expression on his face, he does seem to glean some of what Blade is saying, though.]
It does, yes. Laying out a village or city on a plan that makes it easier to navigate is a good idea. Many of the northern tribes had towns constructed similarly.
I wanted to ride the little train that goes underground.
[Thor looks a little surprised that someone would simply take a possession that did not belong to them, but restrains his annoyance. The stranger is a mere boy, after all.]
Ha! My bad, but good, we love Thor. The name was similar.
The subway. Yeah. But, I mean, where do you want to ride the train to? The screen is all frozen. Probably need to restart this app to get it working again and well....if you do, you'll need the address again. So you can get where you're going.
The Empire State Building. I was told the view of the city from there is unparalleled. Perhaps I should walk. Then that infernal device cannot make more mischief.
[There doesn't seem to be a reason not to, so Thor hands it over. If the girl breaks it, he can fill out one of those forms to get a new one. Or just tell Fury.]

Make sense?

But I would ask - what is BFE?

It is a frustrating machine.

Ha! Early morning replies! I thought this was the Thor Sam knows! :)
This is Thor's first post. He doesn't know anyone?

Which line are you looking for? I think that'll show you what you need.

The one that will take me to the Empire's State Building.

Okay, see the orange line? Take the N or Q or R train uptown to 34th street. That should be the easiest and fastest way to get there.
